RESIST WELCOMES SECT TO ITS ROSTER

Sect [sekt] Noun: “A dissenting or schismatic group of people with somewhat different beliefs – typically regarded as heretical – from those of a larger group to which they belong.”

With two countries and four hometowns between them, Sect was born when two project ideas between tour mates merged into the same experiment, finally taking shape in 2015 and culminating in recording sessions in Raleigh NC in early 2016. Sect is comprised of five veterans of ‘90s hardcore who cut their teeth in that formative moment of political, cynical, antagonistic extremes. They each went on to put in their time in bands spanning all corners of the hardcore and xvx worlds, though they’d rather skip the ex-members talk entirely and get right down to the blast beats and breakdowns that fight it out in their chaotic jams – aka cut the shit and go for the throat. Because the Orwellian police states and irreparable social and ecological disasters we once saw off on the horizon are now on our front doorsteps, in full swing – and in just such a volatile, precarious moment as this for civilization, there is more reason than ever to keep lashing out at a world more suicidally bent on its own destruction and the exploitation of people, species and the ecosystem itself, than perhaps ever before in history. For Sect, this is the purpose of hardcore as they know it, conveying an urgency that transcends age, credentials or scene politics, to convert desperation into real talk and action.

Comprised of Chris Colohan on vocals, James Chang and Scott Crouse on guitar, Ian Edwards on bass, and drummer Andrew Hurley, Sect’s self titled debut album will be released on August 5 through Resist Records.

CRISIS ALERT “INTERNAL CONFLICT” EP OUT NOW

“Internal Conflict” is the brand new 7″ from Adelaide band CRISIS ALERT. Short, fast, energetic hardcore songs drawing from influences straight from the early 80’s such as Minor Threat and other Dischord Records related bands. Internal Conflict was recorded straight to tape, mixed / mastered analogue and pressed direct to vinyl. No computers were used in the making of the record, giving the recording an authentic, raw feel.

LEVEL ANNOUNCE “IGNORANCE IS THIS”

Resist Records welcomes Level to its roster. Their debut 7” EP “Ignorance Is This” will be released on August 12.

In 2012 two friends, Pete Abordi and Luke Weber found themselves living in the same city reminiscing about all the great hardcore bands they grew up listening to who helped pave the way and who more importantly shaped them into the people they have become. Bands who not only had a crushing soundtrack but also a just as powerful message.

That same year Level was formed.

It’s been a long journey already up until this point, but on the eve of the release of their debut 7″, Ignorance Is This, Level is ready to leave their mark.

With Pete Abordi (No Apologies) back on the microphone, Luke Weber (Shotpointblank) on drums, Lachy Pitcher and Liam Anderson (both from Reactions) on guitar and bass respectively and Adelaide Hardcore stalwart Tommy D (Day Of Contempt) rounding out the band on second guitar, Level has a solid mix of personnel who’s experience has been forged in the flames of chaos and they are ready to go again.

Pre order now.

CEREMONY AUSTRALIAN TOUR MARCH 2016

Ceremony has announced an Australian tour this March in support of their new album “The L-Shaped Man” (Matador Records).

Breakup albums mark a turning point for a band: the moment when their sound completely changes and reaches a new level of emotional clarity. All that heartbreak and malaise condensed into any single record often makes for a defining piece of work, no matter the genre. The best records explore the nooks and crannies of sadness, learning it inside and out — celebrating it.

Ceremony’s fifth studio album, The L-Shaped Man, uses singer Ross Farrar’s recent breakup as a platform to explore loneliness and emotional weariness, but it is by no means a purely sad album. Rather than look inward, Farrar uses his experience to write about what it means to go through something heavy and come out the other side a different person.

Tickets on sale Friday January 29.
